Camerata Alternates
The Camerata Alternate program provides Jubilate members an opportunity to further advance their musical development within the Camerata rehearsals and performances. This means that they must attend both Jubilate and Camerata rehearsals every week and learn the repertoire of both ensembles. The Camerata Alternate Program is a voluntary activity for Jubilate members. Being selected as an alternate is a wonderful learning experience and a great accomplishment, but it does not guarantee Camerata membership for the next season. Jubilate members who do not choose to audition as alternates may well be successful Camerata candidates for the next season. However, should an opening occur within the Camerata ensemble during the current season, that place will be filled by a current alternate. It is possible that no openings will occur, but in the past alternates have been called forward.
Choristers who wish to be Camerata alternates must have parental approval and support and be personally committed to embracing the increased workload. Families also commit in writing that should their chorister be invited to tour, that the family will assume the responsibility and cost of touring. Those unable to make this commitment should not audition to become Camerata alternates. Just as with Jubilate alternates, Camerata alternates are also given a 3-week period during which they can assess if the experience is something that is going to work out in the overall context of their family and school life and other pre-existing extra-curricular commitments. If during, or at the end of this 3-week period, choristers feel it is too much of a challenge, they may decline the offer without prejudice.
