We stand in sorrow and solidarity with Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation

We stand in sorrow and solidarity with Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation and all Indigenous people as we mourn the loss of 215 children at the former Kamloops Residential School. This is a painful reminder that thousands of children died in residential schools across Canada, including in Newfoundland and Labrador. We recognize that our communities need to deepen our understanding of the issues that continue to contribute to the tremendous suffering.

Those in the non-Indigenous community who may be struggling to find an appropriate way to express support can find resource material at https://firstlightnl.ca, and can honour the memories and the suffering of our Indigenous family and friends by actively seeking truth and engaging in reconciliation: trc.ca
