SHALLAWAY YOUTH CHOIR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Shallaway Youth Choir Scholarship Program has been established to recognize choristers that exemplify Shallaway’s vision both within the Choir and through other activities in their community.

Shallaway’s vision is to aim to foster independent musicianship and leadership in our choristers to empower the next generation of artistic innovators in Newfoundland and Labrador.  Through Shallaway’s commitment to artistic excellence, youth learn the value of independence, discipline, and confidence, while also gaining a sense of pride and identity as Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD TIMELINE:

  • January 30th, 2024 – Applications are launched

  • March 1st, 2024 – Application deadline

  • Before April 30th, 2024 – Congratulatory letter to the successful chorister(s) and the awarding of the Scholarship may be promoted on social media and on the Shallaway website

SELECTION PROCESS:

The Scholarship Committee shall be responsible for the selection of choristers from the following Scholarship categories:

  • Choristers ages 12-14 as of December 31 of the Scholarship year

  • Choristers ages 15-18 as of December 31 of the Scholarship year

  • University Entrance Scholarship

  • Choristers with exceptionalities

Note:  Scholarships will be awarded at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee, which discretion includes without restriction: whether or not all categories for Scholarships will be awarded each year, whether one or more Scholarship may be awarded in any particular category, and whether a Scholarship award should be split between categories.

CRITERIA FOR ASSESSMENT

  • Show promise of future development musically

  • Requirement to write an essay which includes examples of leadership ability within the Choir

  • Exhibits good citizenship and community service

  • Exhibits strong sense of commitment to music and pursuits

  • Exhibits leadership skills in Shallaway and/or community

HOW TO APPLY

Applying for a scholarship from Shallaway Youth Choir is easy. Just follow these simple steps.

NOTE: All Shallaway Youth Choir scholarships may be used for tuition and fees, and tour costs.

The 2024 general application will open January 30, 2024 and have a March 1, 2024 deadline.

  • Print and review your completed application before submitting it to make sure all the information you have provided is complete and accurate. Be sure your essay and recommendations are attached as PDF’s. Any information that does not appear on the printed page will not be seen by the Scholarship Committee.

  • Submit your online application. Your online application must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. of the deadline.
